Roxy & Phil got married on Saturday on a chilly day in Welwyn Garden City. Although it was cold the lovely Roxy was more than happy to pose outside, before the sun went down and we headed off to the Beales Hotel in Hatfield. We had bit more time before the meal to take some more shots inside the hotel. Its a modern hotel and should add some nice variations to their final album. Here is a little sneak peak of the images.

Saturday was a typical Summers day in England....it rained. The ceremoney was at St Peters Church, West Harrow and the rain came down as people started to arrive, but this didn't dampen our spirits, as you can see below from the beautiful smile on Charlotte's face as she kept dry under the umbrellas.

Couples are always worried about the rain, but there is always options. You can take all the photos inside or you can wait for it to clear. On Saturday we did a bit of both. The forecast was that it was going to clear around 3 o'clock and sure enough it did. We got all our group shots taken inside the church, which meant that by the time we got to the reception we were OK to do some lovely shots outside.

I regularly photograph school proms and balls. Other the years I have noticed that the students seem to enjoy the whole idea of a studio set up at their ball. They seem to embrace it and as well as getting some wonderful formal photos they like to have fun with the photos and have "Mr Photographer man" as part of their entertainment. At first I was a bit reluctant to do the silly shots , but I have found they sell just as much as the formals.

Whipsnade Zoo Wedding Photography, now there's a group of words you don't normally see grouped together. Amanda and Paul (and me) had a great time feeding the Giraffes, at their fun filled wedding. We also went on train ride around the zoo to see all the animals, on a steam train that the wedding party had exclusive use of after the zoo had closed. Paul proposed to Amanda a while back on Dunstable Downs, so it only seemed appropriate that we finished the day watching the sun go down on the Downs.

Back in January I photographed the Shard on a freezing afternoon, I decided there and then, that when I do my follow up pictures I would make sure I choose a warm day, boy was it cold, brass monkeys and all that. Its progressing nicely now but I do think I will have to go back again before its finished, I feel compelled to track its growth as it cuts the sky. Last week once again showed the variety of my job. At the weekend I had to photograph Celebrity cars in Bayswater, then during the week I had to cover a Corporate Awards, black tie event at the Riverbank Park Plaza.

What is a Celebrity car I hear you ask? Well its a car made famous by its role on film or TV. Vehicles like the Ghostbusters ambulance and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard brought Queensway to a stand still.

San Siro Panoramic Photos Milan

Here are a couple of shots of the San Siro, formally known as The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. It is one of the rare stadiums which have a ground share. Two bitter rivals share, both Inter and AC Milan call the San Siro home and when they play each other, whoever is deemed to be the home team has three quarters of the ground, while the away team still remain in their usual home end, if that makes sense?.

The Shard - London Photographer

Even on my days off I take pictures. If I'm a guest at a wedding I want to be up there taking the photos. I had a quiet week just before Christmas and I just could not stop myself from heading down to London Bridge to to shoot, what is already the largest building in Britain. The Shard.

When it is finished it is expected to reach 1,017 feet, making it the tallest building in the E.U.
The Shard was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, who was also responsible for Paris's Pompidou centre.

Its not due to be completed until 2012, so I think I will head down there and catch some more work in progress when I get a chance.

The Times- PR photography

Whenever I shoot Commercial or Corporate PR photography I very rarely get to see the end result of my images. I usually supply a Disk of images and that's it. So it was nice today to see one of my shots in The Times. Now it may not be the most creative of shots, but its nice to see my picture published. The brief for the shoot was " a tight head and shoulders showing some branding in the background"....job done.

This got me thinking that maybe I should showcase some more of my published work, so here are a couple, of more examples that I managed to track down, like I said I don't always know where they end up. As of now I will create a little gallery on my Facebook page and maybe add some to my main website.

I am often asked to photograph Conferences and Seminars. Now most of the time they are quite interesting, but I will normally only take away one fact or nugget that sticks in my head, as I am usually too busy concentrating on my photography. Typical man can't do more than one thing at a time I hear you say. Things were a little different a few weeks back, when I had the privilege of spending the day in the Houses of Parliament, photographing the inaugural Electric Infrastructure Security Summit. What's that all about I hear you say, well it was attended by some senior members of Congress and M.P.'s from both sides of the pond, including US Congresswoman Yvette Clarke and Secretary of State for Defence Liam Fox MP. The basic premise of the Summit was to make the World aware and to plan for the inevitable Solar Flare which can take out our Electric Infrastructure and drop us into the Dark Ages.

Old Trafford & Lords Panoramics

Over the years I have been working on a personal project. I have visited a lot of Stadiums in my time and I always try to shoot some panoramics. The way to do it is turn your camera upright and shoot multiple shots in a row with plenty of overlap swinging through 180 degrees. Now that's all well and good, but you end up with between 10 and 20 shots which need stitching together in Photoshop. Now knowing how fussy I am and the fact that this will take me at least a full day, maybe more to put the images together, I have been sitting on these images for some time. I always thought I will get round to them "one day". Well that "one day" came recently when these images were shaken from there slumber, when I received a call from a local sport shop looking to fill some space on his newly opened shops walls. I eventually got round to manipulating the photos and yes, they took at least a day to put together. These are the first two of many which are currently being framed as a 36 inch print. Seeing them on the computer screen doesn't really do them justice, as soon as they are up in the shop I will post again and if you are ever in Watford you may like to check them out. Actors Headshots Hertfordshire

I recently had the opportunity to photograph the wonderful Shakespearean actor Phillip Voss, for his Actor headshots. The way I work is, I am a location photographer and as such I come to you to do your portfolio. I set up a light and backdrop, but sometimes you don't need a backdrop as in the case of these images where we just let the light fall off to black. I initially shoot everything in colour, but most casting companies tend to want black and white images, so I convert the colour images to B/W.

People will often say. I only want a couple of shots, but as you can see by these images with just a small change in the lighting and a few costume changes you can get quite a varied set of photographs from a "simple headshot".

Wedding Photography at Theobalds Park ------------ Sarah & Steve

I had a few jobs on last week, one of which was the lovely wedding of Steve and Sarah at St Stephens Church,St Albans, followed by the reception at the fantastic Theobalds Park. We had previously met up at the reception for a pre- wedding shoot, which meant we had a pretty good idea of the amount of running around the beautiful grounds we were going to do. This is a little preveiw of the wedding before I get on and have a final edit of the images, which will be ready in time for when the happy couple return from Honeymoon.

London Wedding Photographer - Rich & Lisa

Richard is one of my oldest, bestest mates. We've known each other since primary school, so when he told everyone he was marrying Lisa, we all thought "bout time". They chose the date last year and for one scary moment I thought it was the same date as my wife's best friend Sue(see previous post). After much double checking the diary and a few phone calls later it came to pass that Sue was getting married on the Saturday, while Rich was getting hitched on the Sunday. They tied the knot at a pretty cool venue called Q Vardis, another new location for me, but one I would highly recommend.

Richard, being a black cab driver, naturally had loads of guests and family who were cabbies, so when the gorgeous Lisa turned up in a beautiful vintage cab, obviously all the men were drooling..........over the cab

London Wedding Photography - Sue & Brian

What are the chances of my best/oldest mate, getting married the same weekend as my wife's best/oldest friend. Both couples decided to tie the knot after all these years, last weekend. Fortunately one was on Saturday and one was on Sunday.

Sue and Brian had their ceremony at St Katherine's church, East Acton and afterwards most of the guests traveled in a Big Red London Bus, to the AGV Club in West Acton.

London Civil Partnership Photography

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing Lee and Chris's Civil Partnership at, Beauberry House in Dulwich. Another new venue for me but Beauberry House is definitely one of London's hidden gems of a location. It was a joyous occasion, full of laughter from the moment the happy couple arrived. The fun and frivolity continued through the ceremony (see below) and on into the reception where Lee's Father brought along his Jazz band.

Did I mention Lee's Dad played the drums?..........

Oh...and they had a really cool cake...............

Their celebrations take on many forms depending on the length of the anniversary, some will be quiet affairs with the couple spending some quality time alone and for others it will be a full blown knees up.

A couple from Ashton under Lyne in Greater Manchester recently discovered that after sixty years of marriage, they had in fact been celebrating their anniversary on the wrong day completely.

Ernest and Joyce Knott who are both eighty three years old have celebrated their anniversary every year on the 11th of August but it was only while celebrating their diamond anniversary that they decided to look at their wedding certificate. It showed their actual wedding date as the 12th of August and it was only then that the couple realised their mistake.

The couple were married at Christ Church in Ashton under Lyne after courting for eighteen months and neither of them are sure how this mistake occurred to begin with. The couple have three children together, Margaret, Alison and Trevor and now have six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Emilie & Mathews' London Wedding

I always arrive early when I'm shooting a wedding, so when I was sat in my car for half an hour listening to the driving rain, I thought we may be in for a wet one. Fortunately by the time the groom arrived it had stopped and as Emilie pulled in the sun decided to bless us.

When we arrived at the Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Course, for the reception, the rain kept away long enough for our couples portraits (previewed below), but it gave us a sprinkle just as we were about to do our group shots. I had chosen the shade a lovely tree with nice views of the golf course behind for our groups, so once the rain had stopped we started with the brides family. Changeable weather seems to be a bit of a catch phrase in England so subsequently as the day brightened up the Sun decided to find a gap in the clouds and shine a single ray straight into my camera lens, which meant moving the family to a different location. Fortunately Emilie and Matt were having such a great time I don't think it bothered them too much that I was shunting them around.

Kat & Russells wedding photography

Kat And Russel got married last Friday at the Cavendish, Eastcote. It's a local venue where surprisingly I had never worked before. It's a bit of a hidden gem with lots of potential for lovely photos. To say Katrina looked stunning would be an understatement, Alfie was his usual cute self and as for Russell,.... well he had everyone laughing from beginning to end. Last week I traveled up to Wadenhoe House, near Oundle, Peterborough, to photograph Steve and Clares' midweek wedding. It was on a Wednesday which is quite unusual, but more and more couples seem to be opting for a weekday ceremony. The gorgeous Clare looked stunning and it was wonderful to see how much she enjoyed her day. We not only did the cool sultry poses, but she was also up for some fun shots, which included playing polo and climbing up on top of the piano - evidence below.

On Saturday I returned to South Farm, Royston. The last time I was there the weather wasn't too good, but this week we had a scorcher! Which meant the beautiful Alex and Chris were able to have their ceremony in the Gazebo, which is located on its own little island in the middle of the pond. South Farm has extra guest rooms that are actually Gypsy Caravans, which of course just have to be photographed. Here is a flavour of the day.

We had a glorious day at Theobalds Park. I met the lovely Sarah and Steve to have a run through of their wedding day and try out some shots we can do on the day. It was a great opportunity to meet up and get to know each other a little better and hopefully feel a little more at ease with the man asking them to stand in front of his camera. I must admit I think they were naturals and if these shots are anything to go by I am sure their wedding photos will be great.

Saturday was a case of Champagne, Kisses and ......."DelBoy" You see, little did Debby know, but Wayne had deccided to surprise her with a certain Yellow, three wheeled vehicle, to take her the short distance to the Watford Hilton.

A couple of weeks ago I attended the Compleat Angler Wedding Show. It was a very rainy day with some of the roads around Marlow flooded, so the attendance wasn't very high. I was asked before the show was I afraid of birds, when I arrived I found out why. My stand was placed right next to the Hawksdrift stand. They are a wonderful company that enhances your wedding by having an Owl or Hawk deliver your wedding rings during the ceremony. They showcased this during the wedding dress cat walk, it was so cool! The birds were beautiful, but they did steal my thunder a bit, as the future brides approached my stand they all said "Wow!" and promptly started to stroke the birds. C'est La Vie.

Bedfordshire Wedding -The Barns Hotel

When I arrived at the beautiful Barns Hotel the sun had had broken through and was beaming down on the venue. Vicky and Marc had chosen a bit of a Star Trek theme which included tables being named after various Captains' including, James T Kirk.

Now whenever I'm shooting a wedding you will always get the inevetable "paparazzi" behind me clambering to get one of the shots I have set up and normally they are quite discreet and stay behind me on, however on Saturday I had to battle with another budding professional who was stealing my thunder, cheers Harry!

The rain came down half way through our group shots so we finished them inside which also allowed us to get some lovely portraits by a window. Once it cleared we dodged the raindrops and got a few shots by the River.

Did I mention there was another photographer - star!

Wedding Show - Complete Angler, Marlow,Bucks.

On Sunday I'm showcasing my work at the Complete Angler Wedding Show, Marlow Bucks. I've been asked by the organisers if I'm afraid of Birds as a company called Hawksdrift, who are exhibiting at the show on Sunday, is getting one of their hawks to fly up onto the catwalk to present the Bride of the Year winner with a ring. Sounds cool to me.

New Year

Happy New Year to anyone who has stumbled upon my blog.It has been many years since I achieved distinction in my Photographic Skills diploma, over 20 in fact and I have seen many changes and advancements in that time. The biggest change obviously is the leap from Film to Digital, which meant going back to college to re-train in the new technologies. The jump into the digital world was nearly 10 years ago for me and in order to keep up with what's going on, I regularly attend Seminars, Lectures and Conventions. One of the biggest I attend is the S.W.P.P. Convention at the Hammersmith Novotel. Last weekend I attended and sat through some great Masterclasses from the likes of Damian McGillycuddy, Marc Gleghorn, Adobe Photoshop, Jon Jenkins and Richard Walton.

It's a great time to find out about all the new gadgets and techniques and you're never to old to learn cool ways of lighting and posing. One of my favourites is Damian McGillycuddy, he is a fantastic photographer and boy does he know it. His one-liners are legendary and he calls himself "the Big Dog". One of the profound things he said last week was "good light is good light , no matter what" - love it.

Last week found me doing quite a bit of running around.
At the beginning of the week I covered a business awards ceremony in Hook, Hampshire, followed by an early morning trip up to the N.E.C. Birmingham to photograph the Russel Hobbs stand and Marco Pierre White at the BBC Good Food Show. Incidentally Marco got mobbed during his signing session.

It was a brisk, cold day but Lee and Carl were brave enough to have the photographs outside, such a lovely couple.

South Farm

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to shoot two weddings at the same venue within the space of a few days. The venue was South Farm, Royston a beautiful working farm that holds events all year round. Although the weddings were within days of each other, one wedding needed sunglasses the other umbrellas! One of the reasons I love my job is exactly this reason. You would expect shooting a wedding at the same place to produce similar photos, but as I always tell people "no two weddings are alike"

Rob & Sarah, St Helens Church, Wheathamstead

Last week I was fortunate to attend two midweek weddings, which is quite unusual for me as most of my wedding photography is on a Saturday, with the week being left for my Commercial work, Portraits and editing. Rob & Sarah got married in Wheathamstead followed by a lovely reception at the Mill Green Golf Club. We shot most of our formal group shots at the church and when we got back to the reception the wind really picked up, as you can see in the photo below where Sarah does her best to hold onto the veil.

Another first for me found me at the wonderful Notley Abbey, near Aylesbury. A blustery day day with glorious sunshine disturbed by pesky showers didn't deter Tom and Emma from having a great time. The giggles from the bride and bridesmaids set the theme for the day. The photos after the ceremony were interrupted by a little shower but this gave the happy couple a chance for a mingle while we waited for the drizzle to blow away. Once the the formal groups were over and the ground had dried up we went for a wonder around the grounds. Couples always seem to enjoy this as it gives them a chance to be alone for the first time as Mr & Mrs (all be it with a photographer in tow).

Once again I've started a post talking about the weather. Wow, another glorious day for a wedding at Our Lady & St Thomas's Harrow, with the reception at the beautiful Harrow School. It's not that you can't get great pictures when the weathers bad, it just limits your options and like here we wouldn't be able to wonder round and try different locations.
Sometimes it's too hot and you struggle to find shade to avoid harsh shadows in your photography, but last Saturday was a perfect day for Niki and John.

So far this year I've been blessed with the weather for my weddings and it was definitely true for my first visit to St James church, Bushey. Although its local to me I had never photographed this Gorgeous old church before.

The couple had decided on a Red theme, which was not only present in the dress, but they also had a Red London Bus.

Sue spent the whole time smiling and laughing, right the way through to the end of the night. As I was a guest also, I manged to stop the traffic and get a final shot of them standing in the middle of the road outside the Blue Check Restaurant where they had their reception.

Downing Street

It was a privilege to visit Downing street, shame Mr Brown wasn't in, but the finalists did get to meet the Science minister Lord Drayson

After tea we were given a tour of Number 10. The place oozes history, but the thing that stood out for me was something the guide said. He said that during the 80s refurbishment Margaret Thatcher had a little cherub moulded over one of the door frames, the cherub was up a ladder repairing a straw roof "......and that way, there will always be a Thatcher in Number 10"

Big Bang

A while back I covered a large 3 day event at the QE2 Hall. It was a festival of Science and I was there to cover the competition between the 100s of under 18 candidates. A few celebs turned up including Ben Fogle, James Cracknell, MP John Denham and Kate Bellingham who was one of the judges. The finalists were treated to afternoon tea at Number 10 Downing St. Once again I took hundreds of images here is just a flavour.

National Childbirth Trust

I've just finished shooting a job for the National Childbirth Trust. I had to photograph a beautiful newborn with her mother trying out a new style of cot. The job was very last minute as they were trying to make the deadline print run of the catalogue for tomorrow. I would normally shoot Raw files which take a long time to process, so in order to speed things up a bit I took along my laptop and wrote a CD for the client to take away straight after the shoot. Normally I would do some tweaking and editing before the client gets to see the finished results but sometimes "needs must"
